Spreading ‘green’ infrastructural harm: mapping conflicts and socio-ecological disruptions within the European Union’s transnational energy grid

Climate change now serves to justify new mandates for increasing ‘clean’ and ‘renewable’ energy, which affirms the existing European trajectory of infrastructural expansion. Employing a multi-sited political ecology analysis infrastructure (MSPEAI), this article connects five environmental conflicts via 400-kV high-voltage power line (HVPL). The span across France, Catalonia Spain, revealing how ‘green’ transition entrenches harm by branding it ‘green’. Green Deal, other climate legislation, are intensifying colonization countryside neoliberalization energy sector. By examining interlinked conflicts, article, contrary public relations efforts policy, demonstrates there is no transition, only electrical grid expansion (e.g. material energy-use) conflict resulting in green harm. conclusion, thereby, reveals necessity enacting degrowth policy proposals immediately lessen stop spread ecological catastrophe.
